Wat Huay Pla Kang, Chiang Rai…

…The Great Northern Road Trip 2020 : Day 10

The story starts HERE.

This place is a few kilometers northwest of the city center and the Blue Temple.

It’s worth a visit, but as far as I could figure, you look at the impressively large and quite new buildings, maybe go inside, and then move on. It’s probably the sheer size of the Kwan Yin, Goddess of Mercy statue that’s the most impressive…

It seems every time I visit a statue of Kwan Yin, she’s covered in scaffolding. Or maybe it’s a face mask. If you want a closer look, that’s an awful lot of steps to walk up – so I didn’t. But if you do, you can then take an elevator up the inside, and peer out of the hole in her forehead, which is a window.

I just sent Maxie up to get a better view…

There’s a number of buildings to visit, including another white temple…

Although from the front it looks like it’s all white, it isn’t…

Then there’s the nine-storey pagoda with a giant wooden Buddha statue inside…

And to round it all off, you can have a general aerial view…

wwiIt feels like by this point I should have been done with Day 10. But everything I’d visited was fairly close to the city center, plus, I’d made an early start to get to the White Temple before the tourists. So, we’re not done yet.
