…The Great Northern Road Trip 2020 : Day 8
The story starts HERE.
I tootled around a number of places in Pai before setting off to find my hotel. None was worth an article of its own, but some were worth a mention.
Wat Nam Hu…
Just a stone’s throw from the bustling Santichon Village was the serene Wat Nam Hu.
Nothing out of the ordinary as wats go, but it made a pleasant change.
Pam Bok Waterfall…
Someone needs to tell the Thai tourism people that if water falls, it’s not necessarily a waterfall. This pathetic trickle is billed as a major tourist attraction. And I had to pay to see the trickle trickling…
I admit, if I’d ventured further along the treacherous walkway…
… I would have been able to see said trickle emerging from between two almost vertical rocks, making a kind of gorge. I wasn’t sure I’d survive either the walkway or the excitement. Not recommended.
Pai Big Buddha…
It seems everyplace I go on this trip has to have a Big Buddha. This one is not only big, but it’s a long way away…
I’m told it’s a two kilometer walk up 353 steps. No, I didn’t verify this. I was quite happy to look from the bottom of the steps. I had planned to get Maxie to go up and get some closer aerial shots, but unfortunately it was way too windy to fly safely.
The views were nice though…
In Pai…
And so eventually I arrived at my hotel in Pai town. This is the view from the front of the hotel. Guess what? You can see the Big Buddha…
I wandered down to a nearby wat, not because it was anything special. I needed the exercise…
There was even a mosque. That surprised me…
So, that was Day 8. A day of some driving and lots of variety.
