…Hiding In Plain Sight.
Yesterday I made another trip over to “the other side.” The west coast. Krabi province, to be precise. There’s just sooooo much to see.
The first place I hit was Krabi Town. A place I haven’t been in more than three years. In fact, not since I officially moved to Thailand from Malaysia. Wat Kaew Korawaram seems to be a bit of a secret, despite the fact it’s on a small hill overlooking the town. The last time I stayed in Krabi, I must have been within walking distance without even knowing.
Yesterday, despite the fact Krabi is almost overrun with tourists, there were just three other people at the temple. That’s good for me, but it seems a shame. It’s a pretty spectacular place, I think you’ll agree…
I’m not sure, because I can’t find any information in English, but I think the main building is quite new. It certainly looks it. Clean, bright, well maintained…
There is a sign which says the wat was established in 1887, but that must have been with an earlier building.
The inside is as nice as the out. Of course, the obligatory Buddha statue, but also ceiling and walls covered in murals…
The latter seem to painted or printing a cotton-like fabric, but with gold thread woven in…
It’s all very grand…
Meanwhile, back outside, still no tourists…
And so that was a good start to the day. More to come. Stay tuned.
