2015: Top Ten Motorsport Photos…

Well, I couldn’t wrap-up my end-of-year photos without including some motorsport activity.

As it happens, I was only involved with one event during the year, but for me, that lasted two weeks. However; I must get more involved this year. I guess that’s a resolution.

Anyhoo, here’s my favorite pix from the Road To Mandalay Endurance Rally. First, the oldest car in the event, the 1907 Itala Mod. 35. Only two were built. The one not pictured here won the first Peking to Paris road race, held in 1907, finishing a massive twenty days before the second car. In fact, the driver – Prince Scipione Borghese – was so confident of winning, he made a detour from Moscow to St. Petersburg to attend a dinner party and then rejoined the race back in Moscow.

Frankly, I can’t imagine driving this thing to the supermarket, and I was sure this second car would never reach the finish in Mandalay, but finish it did…

One of my favorites – although not especially old – was the Datsun 240Z, co-driven by cousin Simon. No, not really. Just a co-incidence. Come to think of it though, having sourced some rally tires for him in Chiang Mai, he still owes me a couple of beers…

Some people came well equipped with apps. Not mine unfortunately…

And now, with rapidly improving weather, I guess it’s time to start this year’s tootlings.
