Trumpets in Surat Thani…

… Searching For Rosy Trumpet Trees.

On my way to the Surat Thani Floating Market, which I talked about in this article, I drove first to the riverside in the center of the city.

I’d read somewhere on Facebook that some special kind of tree was in bloom and it was a sight not to be missed. Well, I was going through the city anyways, so why not stop and look at the spectacle?

These rosy trumpet trees are apparently not indigenous to Southeast Asia, but are more commonly found in Central and South Africa. Their correct name is Tabebuia Rosea.

Well, it took me a while to find them, but I’m fairly sure this is one, it’s sort-of trumpety…

Okay, it’s pretty, but nothing too exciting. In fact, not worth blogging about. So I won’t.

It was early, the city was quiet, so I parked and wandered along the river banks and through a couple of small parks..

Most of the activity, such as it was, was at the jetty, where the overnight ferry boats had returned from the islands and were being given a swift wash & polish…

wwiAnd that was it really. A pleasant wander in a strangely-quiet city before the sun started melting everything in sight.
